Micellaneous Things
Last week I sent home emergency contact information from our district. If you have not filled it out, please do so and have your child return it as soon as possible. I’ve set up Snap Grades and will send home instructions for you to access your child’s grades online. I’ve set it up so that on Fridays those of you who have provided an email address will get an email if your child is missing assignments, and/or if your child is receiving a below passing grade in a subject.
Pledge packets for our Walk-a-thon went home last week. Please help your child collect pledges. Remember Schallenberger’s Home and School Association’s goal is for every child to raise $100.
Language Arts
This week we will be working on questioning as a reading strategy, text organization, vocabulary, spelling with long vowel sounds, conjuctions, comprehension, syllabication, compound sentences, capitalizing and punctuating sentences, and dictionary skills. We will be learning about the roots “ “equi” and “pend.” In writing we will be working on the first trait of writing: ideas.
Math
In math we will be working on mental math, rounding whole numbers, rounding decimals, estimating sums and differences, adding and subtracting decimals.
Science
Our science rotation begins this week. Mr. Kolda will be teaching Life science, Miss Koman will be teaching Earth science and I will teach Physical science. Those students with me will be learning about the scientific method this week.
Social Studies
We will be learning about Native Americans of the west, and people of the southwest.
Etc.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at Maria_Sheppard@sjusd.org
